Origins of the EN12845 standard

The EN12845 standard was drawn up by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) to replace existing national standards and guarantee consistency in the design, manufacture and commissioning of stationary pump units. It was first published in 2006 and was revised in 2013 to reflect changing technologies and fire safety needs.

The EN12845 standard applies to stationary pump units intended to supply water networks for fire-fighting systems in buildings and structures. It covers the requirements for the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of pump sets.

Requirements

Pump sets must meet performance requirements such as the pressure and water flow required to supply the water networks of fire-fighting systems. They must also be designed to withstand the conditions of use in which they will be installed, such as extreme temperatures, pressure and vibrations.

The EN12845 standard also provides requirements for performance testing of pump sets, as well as procedures for verifying compliance of pump sets with the requirements of the standard. Pump sets must be tested before being put into service to ensure that they meet the requirements of the standard in terms of pressure and water flow.

In short

The EN12845 standard is a reference document for the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of stationary pump units. It guarantees a certain homogeneity in these areas and ensures a certain quality for this equipment for fire-fighting systems.
